MONTGOMERY — Gov. Bob Riley has signed an executive order that designates Lake Martin as a "Treasured Alabama Lake."

Riley signed the order at a ceremony Tuesday on the shores of Lake Martin at the lighthouse at Children's Harbor. He says the designation gives the Alabama Department of Environmental Management another tool to use to protect and enhance Alabama's lakes.

Riley says the "Treasured Alabama Lake" designation will be awarded to lakes that meet quality standards for cleanliness and nutrient enrichment. Lake Martin was the first Alabama lake to receive the designation.

The president of Lake Watch-Lake Martin, Dick Bronson, says the designation proves his belief that Lake Martin is the cleanest lake in Alabama.
