Over the last several months, Lake Martin Homeowners and Boatowners (HOBOs) have received multiple complaints from our members concerning the quality of our drinking water. The complaints concern the quality of our drinking water in both taste and smell. As President of the Lake Martin Homeowners and Boatowners organization, I have spent some time attempting to get this issue addressed by our local officials without much action. I have asked the Dadeville and Alexander city officials to address this issue without much of a response. Certainly not a call to action to fix this important issue.
I have lived in the area part time since 1990. I do not recall our drinking water having any issues of taste or smell until about three or four years ago. Periodically, we would have an issue with our water not tasting or smelling correctly. In the past, I have heard stories that it was caused by algae
Things are always changing at Lake Martin. The Alabama Legislature has passed a couple of new laws that will take effect in October. There has been a lot of discussion on social media concerning these laws. Some of it has been correct, and some of it has been inaccurate. . I thought I would take a stab at it. I'm hoping I will be accurate and correct.
A few months ago, I was elected the new president of Lake
Martin HOBOs. After the election, a
friend and I engaged in an interesting conversation about two subjects – Change
and what is a HOBO?
Five years ago, we were into day three of our family July 4th holiday weekend. We had over 30 members of our family enjoying our holiday weekend at our lake home on Lake Martin. I awoke early and thought I would get up and make coffee for the family. I walked into our bathroom and felt a cramp in my back. I thought I would stretch it out in the closet. I bent over to do a pushup on the bench in the closet. It was then I realized I was having a heart attack and was in trouble.

I was reading a post on a Lake Martin Boaters Facebook account the other day. The original post was someone stating their opinion about boats creating wakes, coming too close to other people's docks and seawalls and causing damage.
The Lake Martin Home Owners and
Boat Owners (Lake Martin HOBOs) want to inform our citizens in Tallapoosa County
and all-around Lake Martin of the information we have discovered concerning
managing the explosive growth in Tallapoosa County. We are not experts in this area. We are concerned property owners and
citizens.
