HOA LAKE MARTIN LETTER TO TALLAPOOSA COUNTY COMMISSION |
Homeowners Association
of Lake Martin,
Commissioners
of the Tallapoosa County Commission Young’s
Landing Improvement District Office of
the Tallapoosa County Engineer Re: Citizen opposition to Camp Margaritaville RV Resorts, Lake Martin Dear Commissioners, County Engineer and Board Members: Tallapoosa County Citizens and neighbors in great numbers are opposed to proposed Camp Margaritaville RV Park mega-development on Lake Martin. In September 2025, HOA Lake Martin received 74 personally written letters and emails from Lake Martin area neighbors addressed to the Tallapoosa County Commission stating their opposition to Camp Margaritaville. HOA Lake Martin president, Dave Maddox, copied and compiled these citizens’ letters and provided a set to each of our Commissioners at the September Commission meeting. It is no surprise that these letters are well written and express with sincerity and often with passion the citizens’ love for Lake Martin as a place of beauty and tranquility unique in today’s world. They value its clean water, the beauty of its natural undeveloped areas, the character of its single family residential areas. Now at the time of the October Commission meeting, we have several request to the Commissioners: 1) Commissioners, please take time to read the citizens’ letters, and be guided by the citizens’ letters. 2) Representatives HOA Lake Martin and from Lake Martin HOBOs urge the Commissioners to schedule ASAP a Camp Margaritaville “working meeting” with HOA Lake Martin citizen representatives and with our attorneys from the Beasley Allen Firm. Please do not ignore the request for citizens’ participation. You have very many Tallapoosa County citizens and voters who are well intended, and smart and competent and who want to participate in good planning for Lake Martin. Please do not shut them out. At this point, we have received no response from Commission members, neither to the citizens’ letters, nor to the long letter from HOA Lake Martin dated September 2, 2025 which was sent to the Commission. Likewise, Lake Martin HOBOs president, Harry DeNegre has written a letter to the Commission dated August 11, 2025 stating in part, “Please accept this letter as our formal request for a public meeting with the Commission to discuss this development before any approvals are granted.” 3) HOA Lake Martin attorneys have made a formal documents request which we believe is outstanding. Please cooperate ASAP by putting these documents on the table. 4) We urge the Commissioners look to scheduling a Camp Margaritaville “Town Hall” meeting to be held timely, after appropriate notice to the public and before further Camp Margaritaville decisions are made. Right now, it seems that the Commissioners believe that the majority of the citizens and voters of Tallapoosa County want to see Camp Margaritaville come to Lake Martin and to have the lodging tax revenues that are anticipated. We believe the County Commission is mistaken. We believe that the majority of the citizens and voters of Tallapoosa County DO NOT WANT Camp Margaritaville on Lake Martin. The Commissioners needs to see this and understand this from the citizens and voters of Tallapoosa County present at a “Town Hall” meeting. HOA Lake Martin now has over 600 individually written citizen statements urging that we say “NO!” to this Camp Margaritaville RV Park mega-development on Lake Martin. Thank you for your leadership and protection of Lake Martin. Home Owners
